[Character]
Character Name: Thor Odinson
Source: Marvel Cinematic Universe (Thor, The Avengers)
History/Pull Point: Thor (2011 film)
The Avengers (2012 film)
I am taking Thor from after The Avengers. The movie implies that Odin and Thor used some weird magicks to get Thor to Earth with the Bifrost gone, so I was thinking that when he returns with Loki, something could go Awry and he winds up here instead of Asgard.
Personality: Once upon a time, the Norse modeled themselves after Asgard and made its royal family their gods. So, perhaps not unexpectedly, Thor is basically the ultimate Viking. He's courageous, daring, vain, loud... basically what most people think of when they hear the words "warrior prince god." He has heaps of personality, and most of it is very, very big.
Of course, that means he's not very subtle, or very good at hiding his feelings. Unlike his brother Loki, Thor has a tendency to be seen as mostly surface-level, and that's... sort of true. It's not that he doesn't feel things deeply, because he absolutely does. But what one sees with Thor tends to be what one gets. He doesn't really keep secrets, and while he does hold the occasional grudge, he's hilariously open about doing so. He can be very quick to react emotionally to things, and often reacts very strongly, with emotional outbursts ranging from shouting at the clouds to actual literal table-flipping.
The first film focuses largely on Thor's learning to be less brash and quick to judge, and temper his strength with wisdom, compassion and learning, as his father Odin did. However, this brashness is definitely still an element of his personality that he hasn't quite overcome yet. He gets into fights easily. Part of that is that he honestly loves to fight. He gets a big kick out of battle. It's an AEsir thing. Breaking news: he also loves hunting, eating, and quaffing!
However, underneath this is a charming and, at times, gentle soul. He genuinely loved Loki -- he still does -- and doesn't understand why Loki hates him so. In part, this is because he's not all that bright, but it's also because from his perspective they were totally Awesome Bros for centuries and to him, nothing changed except Loki himself. He feels compassion both for his own race and others, forming easy but powerful attachments to Midgardians (humans) in both films. In Einmal, as well, he'll probably happily make friends with the locals, although his main focus will be getting through to Loki and finding a way back to Asgard for the two of them and Sif.
Abilities/Special Powers/Non average skills: Like all Asgardians, Thor is superhumanly strong, and has both accelerated healing/general immunity and long life (about 1000 years old). He's not immortal, but by human standards he might seem that way. Being Asgard's own warrior prince, he's also highly trained in combat.
As the son of Odin and the Norse God of Thunder, Thor is also gifted with mastery of storm-related elements, particularly wind and lightning. He uses Mjolnir (see, um, next paragraph) to focus and channel these abilities, but they belong to him. However, he has difficulty using them without the hammer.
His true power lies in Mjolnir. Once his father's warhammer, Mjolnir was passed down to Thor, and now is his primary weapon. Mjolnir has approximately 29797249324724 abilities in the comics, but in the films, there are three shown, and I'm happy to stick with that (or nerf as need be):
1) Mjolnir has an extremely powerful impact: only adamantium, such as that found in Captain America's shield, can stop its blow.
2) As said above, Mjolnir is the focus for his elemental abilities. He can channel lightning and use it offensively, as well as generate wind by whirling Mjolnir. This also allows him a sort of flight.
3) As Mjolnir belongs to Thor and only Thor, it will always return to him unless spelled or cursed (such as by Odin).
I would like to leave him with some access to his abilities, but I'm totally fine with nerfing at mod discretion! After all, he spends half the first movie wandering around powerless, he can deal. I would even be open to having him lose Mjolnir entirely at first and have to recover it in-game.
[Game Specific]
Character class: Knight
Why your character would be that class: Thor could fit into a number of classes: he's an actual prince, and he has the elemental control of a mage. However, his personality is very knight/prince-like, and ultimately, I think his devotion to people over causes, and his tendency to rush into things over going the diplomatic route, makes him more suited to be a knight than a prince at this time. I would potentially be interested in having him grow into a prince role, since he is aware that he needs to learn more to be King of Asgard.
Powers/skills to be gained by being that class: None gained. As I said, I'd like him to keep at least some of his current abilities, but not necessarily all.
[Samples]
Log sample: A knight.
It's hard not to think of it as being demoted, in a sense, particularly when he thinks of Sif sitting upon her throne. How many have beaten him to a golden seat, now? He bears her no ill will, but it's a challenge to think about it, and not one he especially relishes. He is a prince. A prince -- the Prince of Asgard.
But not, apparently, according to the laws of this land.
Still, there are notable improvements over the last time he found himself in a strange situation. Here, he has armor and a weapon. Here, there is magic.
And here, he has his friend and his brother both.
He crosses to the window and looks out over the land, eyes passing over the town, the places he thinks Loki must be (a reminder of what could be accomplished here, what must be accomplished here) and coming, instead, to settle on the view below. He picks out Sif from the crowd of Midgard-- of humans and smiles, extending his arm out the window to wave to her, cheered when she returns it.
No, not so bad, this place.
Orb sample:
[His grip on the sword is very slightly awkward: not the awkward of someone who doesn't know how to use it, but that of someone used to holding a different kind of weapon. But other than that, the man on the orb looks like he was born to wear armor and ride a horse. And, in fact, he was.
He flashes a broad, brilliant smile to those watching.]
Well met, heroes! I am Thor, son of Odin. At first light, I intend to ride out to the forest to deal with these thorns that cause such problems to your kingdom...
...But for now, a question: to whom do I deliver this?
[He reaches down and hauls up, with one hand, a boar. Or what used to be a boar, before the Son of Asgard went hunting.]
It shall make a fine supper, once cooked! [Obviously, he does not plan to be the one to cook it. There are people for that.]
